We strongly believe that children do not need to be taught, but rather that they need to be developed through inspiring, child-led play.
Every child is unique, with their own interests and strengths, and so they develop best when given the freedom to take charge of their own learning. By surrounding your child’s absorbent mind with inspiring, versatile resources and skillful role models, your child’s play wil be nurtured and extended to build them into confident, curious individuals.
We also love to go out exploring. We visit the city farm, the theatre, woods, duck ponds, parks, local shops and anywhere else that piques our interests! At least once a week we visit a local care home for older people. We really immerse ourselves in the local community.
Oldfield Road Nursery is set in a beautiful, Grade 2 listed Georgian building.
On the ground level we have our baby base. This is a bright, spacious room with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over our expansive gardens. We have up to 9 babies a day at the nursery. Next to the baby base is a peaceful sleep room for your little ones to get the rest they need to develop and grow in our nurturing environment.
On the first floor is our toddler and preschool base. Our children have several rooms in which to pursue their passions and interests; we have a small world and construction room with resources to construct and engineer all kinds of creations. The bay windows overlooking the architecture of Bath will provide great inspiration for their play. We also have a large room for inquisitive minds to explore science and develop their play in whichever direction their interests take them. Off this room there is a wonderful room for role play. Role play is a vital way for children to develop their ideas and self-confidence as it provides a safe context in which they can explore a variety emotions, boundaries and roles.
In the basement we have a fantastic space to explore art through free play with various art materials. This allows a child to create and develop their interests in a focused environment. There is a small sensory room off of the art room for all child to relax and explore various senses.
Our garden is an enchanting place where we spend lots of time. We have a safe pond area for the children to explore nature and life-cycles and a fire pit for storytelling and friendship building. We also have a sand pit, water play, a stage area, a glorious mud kitchen and a vegetable patch.
The nursery was set up by Amy, a mother of three, a wife, a teacher, a charity worker, a pet owner and a passionate nursery owner.
Amy believes that each child should be listened to and develop their own interests and skills at a pace that is led by them. That all children are unique and need time to develop into the best version of themselves with patience and the support from grown-ups who listen. This is what we aim to provide at our nurseries.
We believe that from our careful observations of the children at play and our gentle, sensitive support our children develop a confidence that prepares them for school and the wider society. Our children also develop a deep curiosity about the world and what they can create within it.
